Recruiting In The University City
by Robert Bacaj (MetroNews Sports)
Akron head football coach and Morgantown High School alumnus Terry Bowden knows West Virginia football. He walked onto WVU in the 1970s and started coaching as a graduate assistant with the Mountaineers.
More than 30 years later, he’s returned as a recruiter.
“Morgantown’s a really good recruiting area for me,” said Bowden, who was a guest on the MetroNews Statewide Sportsline.
It’s good to him because he can target players who are college-level players, and many of them may not be on WVU’s radar.

2012 is Bowden’s first year at the helm of Akron’s program. The Zips have gone 2-22 over the past two seasons combined. Bowden expects to turn that around.
“Akron had hit a low point,” said Bowden. “We are going to turn this thing around. There are too many positives here to not be successful.”
“We’re going to take some thumpings between where we are and where we’re going to be,” he continued.
